The Democratic Party is no Longer Viable Option

Topic: Politics

Let's face it; if you exclude the votes from the major cities, it barely qualifies as a regional party. I don't say this lightly and I am not a Republican. I have always voted Democrat and have been very proud of that fact. No more. This last debacle was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Please stop talking about how the Republican stole the election or how we're going to get them back in 2008. The fact is, the Democrats lost and they have been losing steadily since 1994. Yes Bill won in 1996 and Obama won this year. But what else have they done in the last ten years? They have spent our contributions and our support and given us nothing but heartbreaks. Giving them our further support is the equivalent of giving money to a gambling addict.

Let the Democratic Party join the Whigs, the Federalist, the Know Nothings and all the other defunct parties that have lost touch with the people. It is time for change. Does this mean we should form another party? Support other existing parties? Or even possibly start supporting moderate Republicans? I don't know. Like you, I am still upset and depressed by what has happened. After we've finally stopped crying and yelling, we need to start a dialogue about what options are available.

The Democratic Party was a wonderful thing in its time. It gave America so many heroes and ideas in the twentieth century. Now we need to let it rest in peace and get on with our lives.
